Dominica Students Can Now Get University Degrees in UWI’s New Campus in Antigua

The University of the West Indies’ (UWI) new campus in Antigua and Barbuda is now open to students from Dominica and other regional students. Students from Dominica can reach UWI’s Fourth Landed Campus in Antigua and Barbuda in 30 minutes by air. The Five Islands Campus was officially opened a few days ago.

The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, at the official launching said the new UWI campus will be a great academic blessing to the Caribbean people. He said the university campus will enhance the professional knowledge and capacity of the people, bringing them to level with the best minds in the world.

According to Brown, the establishment of the university is in fulfillment of the Antigua and Barbuda government’s promise to establish an economic powerhouse in the island country. He revealed that the mandate of the present government for the educational and economic advancement of the people is captured in very simple words: “Our country shall and must be an economic powerhouse.”

UWI Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, said the people of Antigua and Barbuda and other regional countries must take advantage of the university to have at least one university graduate from every family. He said the history of the UWI is closely linked to the history of Antigua and Barbuda and the Eastern Caribbean and closely matches the visions of regional governments.
