Dominica to Donate 10,000 Face Masks to China to Help With Coronavirus
The Skerrit-led administration has finalized plans to donate 10,000 face masks to the People’s Republic of China for the fight against the ravaging Coronavirus disease. The deadly disease affects over 41,000 people worldwide, mostly in China, with over 1,000 fatalities.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the donation of the face masks is an expression of gratitude for the support of the Chinese government to Dominica over the decades. Skerrit said the materials will be donated through the Dominican Embassy in Beijing, China. He urged other countries to come to the support of China as the Asian giant battles the deadly Coronavirus.
“We say to our steadfast friends, the People’s Republic of China that Dominica stands at your side in this hour of grave difficulty to your nation,” he said. “The government of Dominica wishes to say to all nations that this is not the time for nations to take decisions in an effort to isolate the People’s Republic of China.”
The WHO recently reported that there are now over 42,200 confirmed Coronavirus cases in China. The disease started in the Wuhan region of China with over 105 deaths reported in Hubei province and other parts of the country. However, the Chinese government reported that the number of people infected with the disease is coming down by the day.
How Coronavirus spreads among people remains largely unknown, but the risks of infection can be greatly minimized by wearing face masks and washing one’s hands constantly. Victims experience acute respiratory infections and pneumonia with symptoms of flu which include runny nose, fever, sore throat, and cough among others.
