Dominica’s Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Social Services welcomed 17 new Cuban health collaborators on June 22 and 23, 2024. These professionals will enhance the healthcare services across the island, providing high-quality medical care. This marks the continuation of the partnership between Dominica and Cuba, focusing on public health improvement.
The team includes general practitioners, intensive care physicians and nurses, specialized nurses in neonatology and midwifery, radiographers, sonographers, and laboratory technicians. They were received by Cuban Ambassador to Dominica, Miguel Manuel Fraga Gonzalez; Minister of Health, Wellness, and Social Services, Cassanni Laville; Cuban Consul Official, Ahmed Pomar Arechavaleta; and Cuban Medical Brigade leader, Dr. Francisco Sanchez Martinez.
Minister Laville expressed gratitude for the Cuban government’s ongoing support. He noted, “The arrival of these dedicated health professionals strengthens our healthcare system, especially in specialized areas.” The Cuban health collaborators will also engage in training and knowledge exchange with local healthcare workers, aiming to elevate the overall standard of healthcare in Dominica.
Dr. Sanchez emphasized the mission to provide comprehensive medical care and support. “We are honoured to be in Dominica, and this new team looks forward to working closely with Dominican colleagues to ensure all citizens have access to quality healthcare services,” he stated.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Social Services and the Government of Dominica warmly welcome the Cuban health collaborators. An official welcome ceremony is scheduled for June 28, 2024, at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. This collaboration highlights the importance of international solidarity and cooperation in addressing global health challenges.
