Dominica Women lose to Guyana in Road to World Gold Cup Home Match
Dominica missed an opportunity to better its results against Guyana for a second time, when it hosted its home match in Concacaf’s 2023 Road to World Gold Cup in Suriname. The Lady Jags won 9-0 against the Nature Isle ladies at the Dr. Ir Franklin Essed Stadium on Wednesday night. In the first half of play, Dominica conceded five goals. Guyana’s Otesha Charles opened the scoreline in the 4′, with a goal from open play.
Dominica’s chance at an equalizer in the 14′ by Britney Dennis was intercepted at the goal line by Guyana’s GK Chante’ Sandiford. Leading the scoreline in the first half for Guyana were Shanice Alferd (19′), Brianne Desa (28′), Stefani Kouzas (34′) and Annalisa Vincent (38′).
In the second half, Dominica’s GK Celia Gregoire was taken out of play and GK Dymond Daniel came off the bench to make her debut in this tournament. That was not before Gregoire registered four saves in the game. Anya Tribune found a goal in the back of the net in the 61′, while Otesha Charles also registered a hat-trick for Guyana, with two more goals in the 74′ and 79′. Midfielder Sari Finn (overseas-based) took a chance for Dominica in the 79′, but her shot on goal was caught by Guyana’s GK Anessa O’Brien. Annalisa Vincent sealed the scoreline for Guyana with her second goal in the 88′.
Dominica remains in the fourth position on the points table. Guyana maintains its number one spot with 12 points.
Dominica’s lead goal scorer in this qualifier so far is Starr Humphreys with two goals. Dominica will face Suriname on Sunday, December 3, to culminate its campaign for the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup.
