Dominican Government and Red Cross Provide Cash Donations to Bahamas

The Dominican government and the Red Cross provide bank account numbers for cash donations to the Bahamas. Following the widespread destruction of the environment and personal properties brought about by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, the government of Dominica has provided bank account details to enable individuals to give cash donations toward recovery efforts in the Bahamas.

The Dominica Red Cross Society also gave out bank details for people to contribute into to help out the Bahamas at this time.

The government provided the following account for individual contributions:

  • National Bank:
    Account Number – 115004385

The Dominica Red Cross Society provided the following account too:

  • CIBC/FCIB First Caribbean International:
Disaster Relief Account Number – 4123448

Dominica Deputy Prime Minister Reginald Austrie earlier announced a government cash donation of US$100,000 to The Bahamas to help with their reconstruction and recovery efforts. He said the government will also help with police officers, education, medical personnel and physical relief materials to the people of Bahamas.

He said hundreds of goodwilled Dominicans have been asking for ways to help the Bahamas at this trying period. Austrie said it won’t be possible for relief materials to be transported to the Bahamas at this period of hurricanes due to logistic factors, but urged the people to make their donations into the advertised bank accounts.

“Many people have been asking about how they can contribute to the process, but bear in mind the logistics between The Bahamas and Dominica can be very difficult especially in this period,” PM Austrie said. “With the lack of communication flowing, we felt it better that in this early period that we resort to making cash contributions rather than the usual contributions of dry goods, food and clothing. Cash contributions we believe will be more benefit to the people of The Bahamas now.”

He said the government will deploy 15 police officers and eight fire officers to help the Bahamas in a regional assistance effort. DOWASCO will provide water to some communities and a technical team will be sent to help the Grand Bahamas Power Company repair damaged power lines. Telecoms companies Digicel and Flow have offered to re-establish cellular networks to aid the passage of information between governments and the peoples.
