Dominican Players Test Positive; Women Friendly Games with Anguilla Cancelled

Two friendly games scheduled between Dominica’s senior women team and Anguilla have been cancelled. The matches were cancelled because some Dominican’s players tested positive for COVID-19. The games are to strenghten the players against the CONCACAF qualifiers in February.

The Dominican women team would have travelled to Anguilla on Friday, January 28, 2022, but a decision was reached to cancel the trip after PCR tests revealed several of the players were infected with the viral disease.

The Dominica Football Association (DFA) PRO, Gerald George, said the cancellation was necessary, but it caused significant disappointment to players, coaches, and sports officials given the level of effort put into the preparation. Officials and players invested countless hours of rigorous training to prepare for the games and they consider the asymptomatic infection unfortunate. George said the team will have future opportunities to contend with other island nations, but in the interim, they must double their efforts for the upcoming qualifiers coming up in the next few weeks. The infected players have been isolated and undergoing medical treatment to ensure their quick recovery.
