Dominicans Resident in the United States Pledge to Support the UWP to Vote out DLP

Dominicans resident in the United States have pledged to back the United Workers Party (UWP) in voting out the Dominican Labour Party (DLP) come May 2020. Adelaide Paul, a member of the Tri-State Diaspora Association which comprises of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, said Dominicans abroad are fully mobilized for a change of government in their home country.

Paul disclosed that Dominicans living in the diaspora should no longer be given a bad name for every unfortunate thing that happens back home. And that it is high time the Skerrit-led administration realized that Dominica is lagging behind in every area of healthcare, agriculture and national development in the entire region.

“We have mobilized for change and given Team Dominica our full support,” Paul said. “We will continue to engage in fundraising and education of the [Dominican] diaspora. We will work with Team Dominica and UWP to bring about a prosperous Dominica. Diasporans will no more be getting a bad name.”

A Portsmouth native who now lives in the Tri-State region of the US, Paul said it is unfortunate that Ross University left Dominica under the nose of this present administration. She lamented the unfortunate departure of Ross University, saying the negative effects still haunt Dominicans and the DLP administration up till today.

“We are one people, whether we are at home or abroad; we will work together to bring change to Dominica,” she asserted. “It is our movement; it is our time; it is our people; it is the people’s movement and in the diaspora, we will continue to support UWP Team Dominica.”

Paul, who recently visited Dominica, said the country is not developing as fast as it should. She said the country still lacks a befitting international airport, an efficient healthcare system, a functional port, and a standard marina among other developmental infrastructure. She urged Dominican natives in the United States and other countries around the world to come back home during the next general election slated to hold next year to support the UWP and vote DLP out of office.
