Dominica’s Active COVID-19 Cases Hit Six; and 30 Total Positive Cases
The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Dominica hit 30 on September 24, with 24 discharged and six active, Health Minister Irving McIntyre said. Five of the active cases are asymptomatic and currently undergoing coronavirus treatment at a government facility, and only one individual is displaying infection symptoms, Dr. McIntyre revealed.
The health minister further disclosed that the ages of the victims ranged from 2-59 with the average age being 33 years. According to him, almost all the coronavirus cases were brought into the country from overseas, and that 87 people who related with the victims have been identified through diligent contact-tracing.
After testing the contacts, 96 turned out negative without any infections but three contacts had positive results and underwent due treatment. McIntyre said that the coronavirus pandemic did not spread through the communities in Dominica, and that this fact limited the numbers of potential victims in the country.
He advocated that people should continue to wear face masks, wash their hands regularly with soaps or use hand sanitizers, and maintain social distancing among other health protocols recommended by the Ministry of Health. He also advised people to spend less time outdoors and to avoid crowdy situations, while agencies should increase their efforts to sensitize the people on the dangers ignoring official health regulations.
