DOMLEC to Commission New Power Units, Enhancing Island’s Electricity Supply
This weekend marks a significant milestone for Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC), as Chief Operations Officer Dave Stamp recently shared. This Sunday, November 26, is set for the commissioning of a critical power project – the integration of an additional three megawatts of electricity into the island’s power grid, a move that promises to enhance energy stability and efficiency.
DOMLEC’s progress update yesterday was the platform for this announcement. The additional capacity, sourced through a rental agreement with Aggreko, a US-based generator rental company, includes two units that arrived on the island on November 10. This addition is a strategic response to the recent load management challenges faced by the island.
Stamp emphasized the smooth progression of the installation, stating, “The equipment installation has gone very well. We’re now in the final stages – testing and commissioning.” This phase is critical, involving rigorous checks and startups of various system components, and is nearing completion.
Looking ahead, Stamp expressed confidence that this upgrade will significantly curtail the ongoing load-shedding process. The commissioning of these units is not just a technical achievement but also a sign of DOMLEC’s commitment to improving electricity supply and reliability for the residents of Dominica.
The entire DOMLEC team, including engineers and technicians, has been focused on ensuring the success of this project. With this new capacity, DOMLEC is set to take a substantial leap forward in meeting the island’s energy needs more efficiently and reliably.
