The Dominican Water and Sewerage Company Ltd (DOWASCO) is prepared to shut down water supply in the face of Tropical Storm Dorian. The government agency announced that this measure is necessary in order to contain any torrential effect the much anticipated Tropical Storm Dorian may have on the island country of Dominica.
The water company revealed that the water will be turned off for as long as possible, perhaps until when the storm passes. This will not only reduce the damaging effects of the storm, it will also conserve resources and ensure water is sufficient for national use following the storm. Every household and commercial organizations relying on water are advised to store enough water for long-term use during this shutdown period.
Individual families are also encouraged to store enough water in clean, covered containers for long-term use until DOWASCO begins to pump water again. However, DOWASCO said its water trucks will be available to deliver water to communities where there is scarcity for temporary relief until things come back to normal again.
Health experts say DOWASCO did the right thing by deciding to shut down water supply in the face of Storm Dorian. This they say will prevent the outbreak of epidemics as well as reduce the impacts of any floods associated with the storm. PM Skerrit and other top government officials have also encouraged people to take preventive measures to protect lives and property as well as do all that is necessary to make life easier during the anticipated downpour.
