DSC Board Addresses Faculty Concerns Following Protests

The Board of Governors of Dominica State College (DSC) has responded to recent industrial action taken by faculty members, clarifying the institution’s position on ongoing salary negotiations and working conditions.
In a formal statement, the Board acknowledged the frustrations expressed by lecturers, noting that the concerns raised were taken seriously. However, the Board stressed that DSC is already engaged in discussions aimed at improving salaries, upgrading infrastructure, and addressing workplace grievances.
According to the statement, the college administration has consistently maintained open dialogue with faculty representatives and has presented proposals for phased salary adjustments in line with the institution’s financial realities. The Board also revealed that several key improvements, including upgrades to facilities, technology enhancements, and classroom repairs, are already underway.
While acknowledging that some issues remain unresolved, the Board urged faculty to return to the table for constructive dialogue. “We understand the concerns raised, but meaningful progress can only come through continued engagement,” the statement read.
Faculty members recently staged a walkout, citing long-standing dissatisfaction with working conditions and salaries that have not kept pace with rising living costs. However, the Board stressed that disruptions to teaching ultimately affect students most, urging all parties to work together for the future of the college.
With exams approaching, the DSC Board hopes both sides can find common ground and focus on strengthening Dominica’s premier tertiary institution for students, faculty, and the wider community.
