Education Ministry and OECS Hold Consultations on New Primary Curriculum
The Ministry of Education in partnership with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) held public consultations on expanding the existing primary curriculum for public schools. Organized under the theme “Reflect, Refocus, and Renew,” the consultation held with the OECS’s Program for Educational Advancement and Relevant Learning (PEARL).
Members of the public and education stakeholders were invited to participate in the initiative with a view to arriving at a consensus review of primary education curriculum that will be implemented throughout OECS states. The review will necessitate modifying scopes of key subjects and topics in line with global outlooks for academic excellence.
This is geared towards improving the educational capacities of students in a holistic manner to – meet community needs, address present-day realities, and navigate competitive work environments after the students graduate and join the workforce. It will also enhance access to quality education and boost the overall educational system.
Held from June 14-15 at the Alliance Francaise, the event was attended by education advocacy groups, academic officials, community members, as well as teachers, parents, and students. The attendees praised the success of the programme, saying it was enlightening and formed the framework upon which quality education is developed and served to all.
