Education Ministry Outlines Ongoing Plans to Reopen Schools by September

Dr. Jeffrey Blaize has outlined the ongoing plans of the Ministry of Education to reopen schools for classroom attendance by September. The assistant chief education officer said his ministry is working with the Ministry of Health to ensure that students resume to classroom facilities that are safe and conducive for learning in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

He said the education ministry is faced with a number of problems over the classroom resumption mandate, but that a range of options is being worked out to ensure that students and teachers, as well as other school staff, operate in a new environment that is both safe and comfortable.

Moving forward to the reopening of our schools, we know that it will be similarly challenging, however…we do have a range of options, however, spanning from regular schooling to shift systems if necessary to ensure that our students can access their education in a safe environment.

As part of the protocols that will be put in place to ensure that teachers and students return to a safe instructional environment, Blaize said water for handwashing will be made available at all schools for students and staff use, and that more cleaners will be engaged for increased sanitation activities, while more dispensers will be installed in schools for hand-disinfection purposes.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Ministry of Health will also erect signboards to raise public awareness for strict observance of health protocols regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Blaize disclosed.
