Entrepreneurial Spirit Celebrated Through DYBT’s Week-Long Activities
The Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) has launched a week-long celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) under the theme “Entrepreneurship is for Everyone.” Running from November 18 to 21, 2024, the initiative highlights innovation, resilience, and the power of entrepreneurship across Dominica.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister of State for Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development, Senator Oscar George, commended the DYBT for fostering entrepreneurial growth among young Dominicans. “DYBT has been instrumental in equipping young entrepreneurs with the training, mentorship, and access to funding needed to launch and sustain their businesses,” he stated.
The week’s activities include school tours to promote youth entrepreneurship, DYBT’s 20th Graduation and Awards Ceremony to honor over 40 entrepreneurs, and an Entrepreneurial Showcase at the Castle Bruce Youth Centre.
According to Senator George, such initiatives are vital for rural economic development, as small businesses keep money circulating within local communities. George also encouraged young people to pursue entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of identifying local needs and creating solutions. “If your business is in a position to solve a problem that the average person faces, it will be very difficult for your business to fail,” he remarked.
Additionally, DYBT Coordinator Phillip Rolle announced the 20th Anniversary Awards Ceremony on December 13, 2024. This event will recognize key contributors to the DYBT’s success, including the “People’s Choice Award for Youth Entrepreneur of the Year.”
The DYBT remains committed to nurturing entrepreneurial potential, empowering Dominicans to drive change within their communities.
