National epidemiologist, Shallaudin Ahmed, has revealed that Dominica currently has five active COVID-19 cases, all imported into the country and asymptomatic. He also said no deaths have been recorded from the pandemic, and he urged people to get vaccinated to further protect themselves and their families.
As of today our active cases are 5. Total recovered cases are 192 and to-date there have been no deaths due to Covid-19. So far Covid transmission remains sporadic in Dominica. Our surveillance continues.

To achieve a total elimination of the disease and to ensure that none is imported into the country, the government has modified its entry protocols by requesting people to upload their vaccination and test results before coming into Dominica. According to Ahmed, intending travellers to the country must be fully vaccinated, upload negative PCR tests, and have medical clearance to travel.
He revealed that 19,612 PCR tests have been completed in Dominica with only 1% positivity rate. He also added that 19,138 people have been fully vaccinated against the pandemic and another 1,300 had taken their first jabs. Based on government statistics, the national epidemiologist stated that only 27% of the entire population has been fully vaccinated and urged everyone to do their part to eliminate the infection through inoculation.
In the same vein, Health Minister Irving McIntyre said Dominica should be credited for managing the pandemic effectively, adding that almost everyone adopted a proactive approach to preventing the pandemic from gaining grounds. While thanking frontline healthcare workers for their role, the minister said the government was very decisive in actions that required compliance with health protocols.
McIntyre said the Skerrit-led administration will continue to adopt scientific approaches to curbing the disease, adding that public cooperation is also required for the government to succeed at protecting the health of the nation.
