Exciting end to 2020 KFC National Volleyball League

If one word had to be used to sum up the final night of 2020 KFC National Volleyball League on Saturday, it would be superb. Supporters turned up in full force to cheer on their favourite and home teams. Drumming and shouts of joy could be heard far beyond the 12th Street Canefield. The fans showed up and the games did not disappoint.

Defending champions Signman Celtics took to the court to defend their championship against Acers, who are also no strangers to finals. From the first set it was obvious that both teams wanted the victory. Superb serving by Elizabeth Joseph messed up Acers 2-0 set lead and Celtics fans were thrilled that their team still had a shot at regaining the title. As the game progressed Acers dug deep, and had a near 10 point run, not wanting the game to move to a fifth set. Captain Anna Maria Panthier – Xavier could be heard urging on her team until that final point was scored and Acers celebrated their 3-1 victory and walked away with the 2020 KFC National Volleyball League Women’s Championship Title.

With the women’s fate decided, it was time for the men’s match. Taking the court were the two time defending champions KFC Young Vets and La Familia Young Breakers … and no one could have guessed the intense and superb game to come. Jump serves, blocks, hits from all positions; this game had it all … a five (5) set thriller.  It was a shock start as Breakers won the 1st set 25-22.Vets recovered winning the next 2 sets 25-18 and 25-15. Just when it seemed that they were done and left in the dust, the Young Breakers rallied to take the 4th set 25-22 forcing a decisive 5th set. Breakers wasted no time and jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and when sides changed, scores were 8-4. A three-peat seemed all but possible for the Young Vets but they were not to be denied as they clawed their way back to level the game at 8-8 and eventually sealed the win 15-11 with an ace. In the end although Vets reigned supreme the real winner on the night was volleyball as the fans were treated to a game for the ages worthy of the title championship match.

A presentation ceremony was held directly after the games were concluded and the trophies were presented to the winning teams. Mr. Billy Doctrove of Big Edge Financial donated two (2) MVP of the finals awards.
