Following the mysterious death of 36-year-old Kerwin Prosper in police custody, his family is suspecting foul play and pointing accusing fingers at police authorities. Prosper was arrested on burglary charges and possession of stolen property, but he died in police custody and his family members are calling for justice to be done regarding his unfortunate demise.
“Despite his ways, we grew up together and his death really hurts,” one of Prosper’s family members declared. “He wasn’t a hostile or aggressive person; yes, he liked to touch but he was never arrested for any violent crime, just for theft. The police arresting murders and rapists and they are not dying in their hands, so I don’t understand why it had to be Kerwin.”
According to family sources, about 20 police officers swarmed into Prosper’s residence on February 15 on suspicion of theft. He was taken away after it was discovered that he had provided fake names and information about his identity and activities. Family members said he was healthy and strong when he was led away on Monday, but shocked to hear of his questionable death on Thursday. They contend there is something fishy about Prosper’s death in police custody.
Police authorities said the deceased suddenly complained of feeling unwell while in custody and collapsed without warning. He was rushed to DCFH where he gave up the ghost while doctors were attending to him. It is expected that police authorities or family members would insist on a post-mortem to establish the cause of death and that this would be made public.
