Tourism Minister Denise Charles said the first cruise ship will come to Dominica on June 6. This is following the lifting of COVID-19 travel restrictions in Dominica and the entire Caribbean. Charles however said cruise staff and passengers must be completely vaccinated two weeks before they embark on the trip to the country.

She said the resumption of cruise ships for the summer will commence in Barbados, and that cruise passengers must adhere to the entry protocols of Barbados before embarking on any trips. The tourism minister said passengers must also meet entry requirements for Dominica before they are allowed to enter the country.

According to Charles, apart from getting fully vaccinated two weeks before travel, passengers and crew must qualify for entry protocols as well as observe social distancing and wearing of face masks. The minister added that tourists who desire to navigate tourist attractions in the interior of Dominica must provide proofs that they had booked for pre-approved tours before the are allowed to proceed on such tours.

These measures are to safeguard the health of the people as well as those of travellers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dominica currently has four active cases recorded with people observing 5-day quarantine but there is no single community infection or coronavirus-related deaths in the country.
