First Cruise Ship for 2022-2023 Season with 2,417 Passengers Dock in Roseau
The first cruise ship to visit Dominica for the 2022-2023 season has docked in Roseau. Named Mein Schiff 2, the luxury cruiser has capacity for 2,417 passengers and it berthed in Roseau on Monday. The mammoth cruise ship is owned by TUI Cruises and constructed by Meyer Turku, a Finnish company.
Welcoming the passengers to Dominica, the CEO of the Dominica Air and Seaport Authority (DASPA), Benoit Bardouille, said the Dominican government is doing everything possible to make vacationers aboard cruise ships enjoy sightseeing and business patronage on the Island. He said the government has also made tourism products enhanced in terms of resilience to give visitors to the Island the best tourism experience.
Bardouille also revealed that the government is commited to achieving 100% green energy electricity in the country within the next 24 months. He added that running the country’s electricity on 100% renewable energy is a Herculean task that the government is commited to achieving within two years, and making Dominica the first climate-resilient country in the world by 2030.
The DASPA chief said Dominica looks forward to welcoming 80,000 cruise visitors within the 2022-2023 cruise season. He said the tourism sector is being revitalized and that visitors will have the best experience visiting Dominica going forward. He said the economic potentials of the Island will be boosted with the visit of cruise passengers and that Dominica is on track to becoming the Number 1 tourism destination in the world under the current DLP administration.
