$120,000 Fish Vendors Arcade Constructed In Scotts Head to Benefit Five

A $120,000 fish vendors arcade constructed in Scotts Head is to benefit five people. The beneficiaries were people critically impacted by Hurricane Maria. The project was funded by L’Express Des Iles.

Roland Bellemare, managing director of L’Express Des Iles, said the initiative will restore the livelihoods of five people in the village of Scotts Head following the devastations of the hurricane.

Parliamentary Representative for the village, Denise Charles, expressed thanks to L’Express for the fishing arcade, saying other private companies should come to the rescue of people in the village.

In a related development, the Japanese government has provided a $5 million funding to train women farmers in Dominica and Guyana on disaster management. The programme was implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and is currently ongoing at the moment. The overall objective is to empower women farmers against natural disasters.

The training is currently underway at the DPSU meeting centre.

Louis Francisco Thais of the UNDP said women are targeted for this training because they face a different level of risks in agriculture. Ricky Brumant, a director at the Ministry of Agriculture, said the government is set to empower women in agriculture and train on them on best-farming methods.
