Footballer Remanded in Prison for Molesting Teens; 67-Year-Old Molests Girl

A former national footballer has been remanded at the Dominica State Prison in Stock Farm over allegations that he had carnal knowledge of two teenagers below the age of 16 earlier this year. Appearing before Magistrate Michael Laudat at the Roseau magistrate court on Monday, the accused was also charged with escaping police custody – but he pleaded not guilty.

The defendant did not have a lawyer present in court to represent him when the charges were read to him; but he announced that Attorney Peter Alleyne will be representing him. He said Alleyne will file for his bail and Magistrate Laudat adjourned his bail application to June 30. While his case may be tried at the High Court before a judge and jury, police prosecution said they are against his bail. He remains remanded at the state prison.

In a related vein, a 67-year-old man from Glanvillia in Portsmouth, Peter Lovell, has pleaded guilty to sexually molesting a 6-year-old girl. Following his admission of guilt to High Court Justice Wynante Adrien-Roberts, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) represented by Marie Pierre-Louis withdrew the second charge of indecent assault against the accused.

Defence attorney Wayne Nord and the prosecution agreed that Lovell be granted bail, but Justice Adrien-Roberts refused the request, stating that the offence is too weighty for the defendant to have bail. The judge ordered that a Social Inquiry Report on Lovell be delivered to the court before July 15 and then ordered him remanded at Stock Farm until his sentencing on July 27, 2022.
