Former Dominica & Windwards Cricketer, Mervin Durand, Critically ill at DCFH

Former Dominica and Windward cricketer, Mervin Durand, is critically ill at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH). Durand said he has been on admission at the hospital for two months and solicits for prayers and help. The exact nature of his illness remains unknown at this time.

Born in 1960, Durand was a List A cricketer and played four 1st class matches for the Windwards Islands from 1989-1991. He played against England in St. Lucia where the game was 7/15 – a great feat for him at that time.

The role the government and the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) are playing in his recovery remains unclear as at press time.

Meanwhile, the president of DCA, Clement Marcellin, has revealed that the association has developed and approved a selection policy that is based on data. He stated that the new selection process will ensure that the best players are picked for games and that quality players are given the best opportunities.

Marcellin added that all cricketers will be notified of the new policy and how to take better advantage of it.
