The New Fort Young & Dive Resort

Details about the hotel’s forthcoming enhancements will be discussed at a November 29, 2019 press conference. This includes an October 2020 re-launch of the fort rooms with 60 new rooms with modern amenities and spectacular sea and mountain views, bringing the total room count to 100; state-of-the-art fitness center featuring eco-friendly equipment;  holistic spa and yoga deck; kids club; business center; new bar and lounge; 200-seat conference room; 250-seat sun deck for weddings and other events;  and, three new meeting rooms.  The hotel will also refresh its 40 existing oceanfront rooms with upgraded furnishings, bathrooms and amenities. Upon completion, Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort will be a 4-star property.

Much of the building’s original integrity has been maintained and continues to be an integral part of the hotel. Notably, the building’s 200-year-old cellars, which will be transformed into a retail space, along with a wine and rum cellar. The seaside hotel will also have an art gallery designed around one of the structure’s longtime artifacts — an 18th century wood oven. This space will serve as a platform for local artists and artisans who will have an opportunity to showcase their work at private events.

Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort embraces a rich and soulful history as a cornerstone of the island. While the hotel first opened in 1964, the land upon which it sits dates back to 1699, when it was the country’s major military installation. Ruins of the old fort still remain, including cannons and original stonework that are located in the foyer and the entrance’s courtyard. Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort reopened in 1989 under new ownership, but with the same original spirit. Despite the devastation from Hurricane David in 1979 and Hurricane Maria in 2017, Fort Young Hotel has endured, remaining one of the island’s most important and renowned landmarks.

Situated on the waterfront, Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort is the country’s only downtown hotel, affording guests unmatched proximity to the Nature Island’s vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, exhilarating activities and some of the island’s most prized attractions, like Trafalgar Falls, Middleham Falls, Freshwater Lake, segments of the Waitukubuli National Trail, and world-renowned diving. Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort offers a luxurious sense of seclusion, fine dining and meeting facilities.
