Cecil Joseph, the general manager of DBS Radio, has lambasted bus drivers and public commuters for flouting COVID-19 protocols established by the Ministry of Health. Joseph stated at a DBS Radio recognition ceremony that bus drivers fail to provide the hand sanitizers recommended for commuters and also ignore the warning that all commuters must wear face masks.
“COVID-19 is no friend of the society,” he remarked. “The protocol is everyone who enters your bus should be masked and should be given some sanitizer. I have recognized and I have seen that many of the public buses are not keeping to that protocol.”
The radio station manager said using face masks and applying hand sanitizers is for the benefits of the masses in the fight against coronavirus. He said anyone who ignores the recommendation of the Ministry of Health is doing so to his own peril. He advised commuters never to enter any bus that does not have hand sanitizers in place, nor enter public buses if they themselves are not using face masks.
As it stands, the government instructed that public bus drivers must carry only two passengers per row instead of the one passenger that was formerly instituted at the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak in Dominica. Joseph tasked members of the public to report any bus driver flouting social health protocols to health authorities and the police for immediate action.
