Glenroy Cuffy Faults DLP Govt over Funds Allocated As Community Empowerment
A prominent UWP member, Glenroy Cuffy, has condemned the DLP administration for the mismanagement of council funds. Cuffy said the Skerrit-led administration allocates funds to parliamentary representatives as “community empowerment,” funds that should have been applied to village councils.
The politician and farmer said the Ministry of Finance is also guilty of depriving village councils of statutory developmental funds. He said the government disburses funds to DLP parliamentarians instead of allocating the funds to all constituency representatives for regional growth. He said this situation contradicts the policy framework guiding the allocation of such funds.
Given that the UWP has parliamentary representatives in Salisbury, Roseau North, and Marigot, Cuffy said the current government can do better to allocate funds to all elected parliamentarians under the constituency empowerment fund programme. He called for an equitable distribution of development funds to opposition parliamentarians as becoming a transparent national government.
Meanwhile, parliamentary representative for the Roseau North constituency, Daniel Lugay, has bemoaned the selective distribution of fertilizers to farmers nationwide. He said for more than 20 years, DLP government officials are biased in the distribution of fertilizers to select farmers, noting that the sorting of the chemical nutrient also makes its distribution partial.
