Gold Medalist Treneese Hamilton & Silver Medalist Addison James Return Home

CARIFTA gold medalist Treneese Hamilton and silver medalist Addison James are back home to Dominica. They arrived at the Douglas Charles Airport on Sunday afternoon and were received by Sports Minister Roselyn Paul. The sports ministry treated the duo to a warm reception at the Business Lounge of the airport where the athletes were visibly overwhelmed.

Minister for Youths, Dr. Adis King, also welcomed the athletes and praised them for making the country proud at the 2022 CARIFTA games.

Not expecting the government welcome and the reception they were hosted, Hamilton expressed joy at seeing government functionaries and family members come to welcome her. She said she was shocked at the crowd that came to the airport to welcome her and then expressed thanks for the honour. She won bronze at shotput in 2018 and silver in 2019 and said she was happy to win gold at her last appearance at CARIFTA.

I felt relieved qualifying for the CARIFTA Games because it was the first one after a two-year hiatus and was my fourth and last CARIFTA. I feel accomplished, ecstatic, and just overall elated with myself after winning gold. I have been working towards this for a long while after winning bronze in 2018 and silver in 2019. It was only fitting that I completed my series by ending it off with the Gold.

The 49th CARIFTA games held from April 16-18 at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Overall, Jamaica won 47 gold, 32 silver, and 18 bronze at the entire competition.
