Government Approves Construction of Balapark/Cemetery Road at $107,985

The government has approved the construction of the first phase of the Balapark/Cemetery road for the cost of $107,985. The MP for the Grandbay constituency, Dr. Vince Henderson, said the project will facilitate transportation access when completed. He added it will also boost economic activities in the surrounding communities as well as benefit farmers who need to access their farms quicker.

According to Henderson, residents of Balapark/Cemetery road find it difficult to reach their homes because public buses refuse to ply the area due to bad roads. He stated that this experience will become history after the completion of the road because there will be easier access for private and commercial vehicles.

The Member of Parliament revealed that the road construction is being funded with a European Union grant. He also added that everyone involved with the project is from the targeted community – from the workers to the contractor. He stated that the construction includes an efficient drainage system for more than 700 metres of road.

The Grandbay Village Council Chairman, Armour Thomas, expressed appreciation to the Skerrit-led administration for the project. He said the community had been waiting for so long for the road construction project to be executed, adding it will enhance smooth movement of vehicles and people in the entire region.

In a related development, PM Roosevelt Skerrit announced that the Mancanton-Mopo farm road will be rehabilitated to enhance easier access to farm roads. He said the project has been approved for execution and will soon be awarded to a contractor after the legal documentation are completed. This will also be funded by the EU.
