The DLP government has commissioned the Nurse Doris Musgrave Health and Wealthness Centre in Marigot. The facility is the sixth of such to be commissioned by the Skerrit-led administration to bring quality and affordable healthcare closer to the communities. The centre was built in Marigot by MMCE with CBI funds.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit said the new wellness centre is named after Nurse Doris Musgrave in recognition of her selfless service to primary healthcare and midwifery in Roseau, Portsmouth, and Marigot among other villages in Dominica. Skerrit said Nurse Musgrave served for 50 years to provide quality healthcare to people in villages without concern for payment or recognition. He said the late nurse juggled family life with nursing activities with all dedication.
“Who is Nurse Musgrave? Who was this lady? And now it is left to those of us who know her to share with the current and succeeding generations about her contributions,” Skerrit quizzed. “Here it is, a selfless person recognizing that she has duty and obligation to her fellow men and fellow women. Not preoccupied with salary or salary increases, but preoccupied with serving her people and serving them respectfully.”
Principal Nursing Officer, Nurse Terrillia Ravaliere, said the contribution of Musgrave to healthcare included holistic health practices, promotion of healthy living, and assisting young mothers with needed childcare. She said the departed nurse advanced nursing practices the way it should be done in the country during her time.
MP for the Marigot Constituency, Lennox Linton, said the people of Marigot are satisfied with the new healthcare facility and stated that it characterized the life and times of Musgrave. “May this facility long be known for the excellence in health care service that characterized the life and times of Nurse Doris Musgrave,” he said. “In this moment, Marigot is pleased.”
