Govt Completes 3.9 km Cochrane Road At the Cost of $23 Million – McIntyre

The 3.9 km Cochrane village road has been completed at the cost of $23 million. This was revealed by Dr. Irving McIntyre, the parliamentary representative for the village, during the opening of the road last week. He stated that the construction of the road actually started in 2014 – long before the elections, and that the project is completed because of the dedication of the government to the welfare of Cochrane villagers.

“It’s a pleasure driving on that road; its 3.9 kilometers of road and actually cost the government $23 million dollars,” McIntyre said. “Although it [Cochrane] might be a small community, and it’s a road that leads to one village, the government didn’t spare that. It just shows how everyone is being catered for regardless of how remote or how small your village is.”

When construction began on the road in 2014, motorists used a detour through Canefield and Springfield in order to reach the hilltop community of Cochrane. The bypass was upgraded at a cost of $80,000 to make it temporarily usable for vehicle owners.

McIntyre said he is happy that the road is completed to satisfaction long before the commencement of the hurricane season. He noted that the construction is complete with a drainage system so that it cannot be flooded easily.

Meanwhile, PM Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that motorists will soon be able to utilize the three bridges that had recently been reconstructed by the Chinese government. He said using the bridges again will ease traffic and provide a travel experience that is best witnessed than imagined. He thanked the government of China for their intervention to rehabilitate the bridges following massive damage to them during Hurricane Maria.
