Govt Highlights Aspects of Loubiere-Bagatelle Road Rehabilitation Project

The DLP administration has highlighted aspects of the Loubiere-Bagatelle road rehabilitation project that will commence soon. The first phase of the construction project will cover 11 kilometres distance which runs from the Loubiere Juction Bridge to Grandbay junction.

The Ministry of Works revealed that the rehabilitation will include the construction of bridges and culverts as well as the replacement of four existing bridges, construction of a new bridge, and reconstruction of several culverts.

In underscoring the importance of the project, PM Roosevelt Skerrit the “project will significantly improve the resillience and safety of the roadway” in a way that boosts climate resilience and socio-economic activities in the region.

With nearly 6,300 residents in the Loubiere-Bagatelle axis, the government said the people will benefit immensely from reduced travel times, safe roads, and direct access to essential facilities. The project will enhance road networks and connectivity in the region as well as raise the standards of living for residents in the LGBR communities.

The key elements of the project will include road pavements, drainages, retaining walls, road alignment in terms of width and safety, and stability of road slopes. The Minister for Works, Oliver Grant, stated that the road will continually undergo periodic maintenance to boost traffic use and future access.

“A road maintenance plan and management system is in place to ensure the road will remain strong, safe and efficient to keep road users safe, manage traffic and maintain upkeep,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Skerrit has assured residents of Grandbay constituency that a housing revolution is coming to the area. He said several acres of land has been purchased and cleared and that construction of residential buildings will commence in the area in the next few months. He said this project is high on the government’s agenda and that it will be fulfilled in due course.
