Govt. Inches Closer To 5,000 Homes Target with New Housing Units in Roseau
PM Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed that the government is inching closer to constructing 5,000 housing units for families all over Dominica. He said the 5,000 target will be reached with the aid of CBI funds and positive will on the part of the DLP administration. The prime minister disclosed that a housing construction boom will hit the country come 2020 amidst other national developmental projects.
The DLP leader noted that there is going to be a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 70 villa resort in Laudat, with another 45 three-bedroom apartments in Trafalgar. Parliamentary representative for Roseau Valley, Dr. John Collin McIntyre among other government officials presented the plans for the housing units to constituency leaders.
According to McIntyre, the government has perfected plans to construct –
- 13 apartments in Lily Valley
- 29 apartments in Cochrane
- 40 aparments in Wotten Waven
- 24 units in Morne Prosper
This is in addition to hundreds of completed climate resilient houses already handed over to families in the last few months. People who have packed into their own free houses have also received all official documentations that effectively make the houses theirs and their children’s forever.
There are several other housing plans already scheduled for other parts of the island until the 5,000 target is exceeded. McIntyre said the DLP administration is serious about the construction projects since the prime minister is eager for every family in the country to possess their own homes.
“These are not pie in the sky prospects,” McIntyre said. “[In Lily Valley] you will see a huge building; it is on earth and not in the sky. The other [guys] talk all sorts of nonsense about pies in the skies but in this party led by our Prime Minister; we are talking about real and true projects that we have been launching on the ground.”
The climate-resilient homes are constructed by Montreal Management Consultants and funded by the Citizenship by Investment programme.
