Grand Bay Resident Shot Dead; Police Arrest Five Men for Investigation

Jason Sorhaindo, 31, tragically lost his life to bullet wounds in Grand Bay, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 15. Sorhaindo’s lifeless body was found by community residents with a gunshot wound to his head. A doctor examined and pronounced him dead.

Police authorities have reportedly arrested five men in connection with the murder. The suspects were arrested during a traffic check in Loubiere. Firearms and ammunition were seized by the police and it is believed that the men fled Grand Bay after killing Sorhaindo.

Attorneys Wayne Norde and Joshua Francis are representing the five suspects.

Just last month, Jullson Baron, 29, was also fatally shot dead in his home in Grand Bay and the police are still investigating the case. And in June, another shooting death occurred in the community with the police yet to resolve the case. It is expected that the five arrested suspects may be connected with the two earlier deaths in the area.

A number of shooting deaths have occurred in Dominica this year, with police authorities and public figures urging people to resolve their differences with dialogue instead of taking to arms. The government also encouraged citizens to report grievances to law enforcement agents rather than executing revenge on percieved aggressors.
