Gretta Roberts Admire Education Officials on Adult Literacy

The Minister for Citizen Empowerment and Social Justice, Gretta Roberts, has praised officials of the Adult Education Division for their efforts at elevating adult literacy in Dominica. Given that September is Adult Education Month with a theme targeting education inclusiveness for sustainable resilience, Roberts said more still needs to be done to get every child and adult to be educated in the country.

According to Roberts, the Skills for Youth Employment in the Caribbean (SKYE) programme launched in February 2021 will also further government interests to get all youths educated and to get them eligible for employment. The minister said the initiative addresses the technical and vocational needs of youths in Dominica, and it will position them to receive business grants from the Department for International Development (DFID).

Roberts said the DLP administration remains committed to raising the bar for girl-child education, and to enabling economically or culturally disadvantaged youths to access quality and affordable education. She added that getting youths educated will also jumpstart similar leverage to get adults to become literate in record time.

According to her, September Adult Education Month will enhance public awareness for adult literacy, and it will provide aged folks with a second chance at a quality education.
