Hananel J.T. Valerie, former student of St. Mary’s Academy (SMA), has emerged the overall best student in the recently concluded CSEC examination. The 17-year-old scored 11 ones and 1 two, and he attributed his outstanding performance to the support of his parents and the help of God.
Valerie said he was elated at his results after its release by the Ministry of Education. He said he was joyful and lost for words, saying he did not expect to emerge the overall best student even though he put in a lot of hard work into studies. He said his parents, teachers, and support group really assisted him to make him a brilliant student, and that he remains eternally grateful for their academic and moral supports.
I focused more on what I could do to thrive from the situation itself and I just want to use that to encourage others out there, that whatever you might be facing, don’t look at the negative but look at how you can get through it because every time you climb a mountain, it’s not to weaken you but to strengthen you because in life you are going to find many obstacles but the real success is when you can get through them and actually be confident that you did.

Valerie’s parents, Magistrate Hansel and Mrs. Theresa Valerie, attributed their son’s success to hard work and dedication to studies. They said their son studied ahead of his classwork and that he devoted himself to studies above anything else. SMA Principal Sylvia Jno Baptiste said she is glad with Valerie’s performance and described him as a steadfast student who strived for academic excellence.
