Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced the introduction of a Medical Health Professionals Bill to parliament by September. The bill will regulate how health professionals discharge their duties in given circumstances and determine their welfare in different situations as well.
Legislation will go to Parliament and we are giving ourselves a deadline by September this year, bringing a Medical Health Professionals Bill to the Parliament that will manage and govern the affairs of health professionals and how they conduct themselves.

The legislative bill will equally take care of a hospital authority that will be created to address medical situations confronting hospital management in Dominica. Drawing attention to the dysfunctional CT scan machine in the country, Skerrit said the bill will address the working conditions of medical equipment in Dominican hospitals, and noted that the dysfunctional CT scan ought to have been up and running a long time ago.
He made it clear that without functional medical equipment, there is no way medical professionals will be able to deliver quality healthcare services to the people.
Meanwhile, the Marigot Hospital is nearing completion after it had been abandoned for some time in the wake of Maria and COVID-19 pandemic. The Discovery of mould and fungus in the hospital during construction made the government to shift its services to the Wesley Health Centre pending completion. Skerrit described the hospital as massive and stated that “we are building this [hospital] for the next 50, 60, and 70 years”.
