Heavy Equipment for Dominica Airport Construction Arrives From China
Heavy equipment meant for the proposed international airport has arrived in Dominica. The construction equipment came in from China and included 11 tonnes of steel ray bars, 44 containers of building materials, graders, payloaders, cranes, bulldozers, and a host of other heavy machineries.
The chairman of the Airport Development Committee, Benoit Bardouille; and the operations director for the MMCE, Carl Murad, confirmed the arrival of the equipment and machineries. PM Roosevelt Skerrit also expressed joy with the arrival of the equipment, saying it will spur construction activities in the Wesley area where the international airport will be sited.
Bardouille said the airport will boost economic activities in Wesley and throughout the country. He added that it will also create employment opportunities and trade in Dominica. Skerrit revealed that foreign expatriates and local contractors will work side by side on the airport, and that youths in the Wesley community will be specially favoured to take part in the projects.
The prime minister disclosed that the construction plan is progressing on schedule and will be completed by 2026. He said the international airport will open up Dominica to the world and there will be direct airflights coming into the country on a daily basis. According to him, the country will rise to become a foremost nation in the Caribbean in terms of economic, cultural, and political growths.
