Hendricks Peters, Shot Dead in Castle Comfort, Police Authorities React

Hendricks Peters of Kings Lane in Roseau has been shot dead by masked gunmen. Peters, a former murder suspect who was charged for the August 2018 shooting death of Ezron Roberts in Kennedy Avenue was on bail before his death. He was shot and killed by gunmen in the public view of his friends with whom he was playing games at The Blast, a gaming centre in Castle Comfort.

Police authorities revealed that Peters was killed “execution-style”, considering the multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and limbs. Police said they found the deceased lying on his back in the pool of his own blood and a medical doctor confirmed him dead after preliminary examination.

His body was moved to the Lyndhurst Funeral Parlour for post-mortem, while a lady who sustained gunshot wounds at the crime scene was trasported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital for treatment. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 12 at about 8 pm in the evening.

The late Hendricks’ brother was also shot dead some years ago. His father, Egbert Peters, expressed consolation in the fact that once an individual has genuine salvation in Christ, he will rise again to better rewards on the Judgement Day.

Superintendent of Police and head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Davidson Valerie, expressed deep concerns over Hendricks’ death and rising wave of gun incidents in Dominica. He said the deceased also narrowly escaped death recently when armed men shot at him at his place of business in Roseau.

According to Valerie, the police will not fold their arms to watch youths resolve their differences with guns. He said guns are destructive to owners, the youths, and to communities. He warned that the police will always be on the heels of people involved in gunfights to bring them to justice, and added that living by the gun is not the lifestyle to adopt.

“We are very much concerned about the way in which people are using guns among themselves,” he said. “This is not a good picture for us. It’s destructive to life, to our young people, [and to] communities…so we want to warn those people who want to live that kind of life…make it a practice, that the police will continue to pursue them. We are going to pursue these investigations. We are going to pursue [them] with all our might and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
