High Court criminal division returned back to its original place

After 15 months the high court criminal division returned back to its original place after it was devastated by hurricane Maria in 2017.

Lawyers and the Dominica Bar association had staged protest action and written to the attorney general and the minister of justice Rayburn Blackmore to try to rectify the situation but met with little success.The court in December 2018 was allowed to sit briefly at the parliament building.

During its case management on January 15  2019 thirteen matters were dealt with. There were 5 matters of a sexual nature, 4 dealt with wounding, one murder and one case of causing death by dangerous driving. The others dealt with theft and burglary.

Meantime, the State is set to commence its first case on January 21, 2019 against Nadishsa Drigo Demizene of Portsmouth charged with several counts of theft.The criminal session is presided over by Justice Victoria Charles Clarke.
