Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore’s Unyielding Resolve: A Stand Against Drug Trade and Illegal Firearms

During a recent session in Parliament discussing the 2023/24 National Budget, National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore made it abundantly clear that his Ministry is leaving no stone unturned in the relentless battle against the drug trade and the possession of illegal firearms. In a resolute and unwavering tone, he addressed those who believe they can sow fear in the public, asserting that their actions will not be tolerated.

“Let me make one thing crystal clear,” Minister Blackmoore asserted firmly, “We will not allow anyone to create an environment of fear in this country. No one is above the law, and the arm of justice will eventually catch up with those involved in such nefarious activities.”

Praising the tireless efforts of the police and customs officers, he highlighted their remarkable achievements in recovering illegal firearms and ammunition. “From 2020 alone, our dedicated police force has managed to seize 177 illegal guns and 142 rounds of ammunition. These figures speak volumes about the magnitude of the challenge we face,” the Minister stated with a mix of concern and determination.

As a clear indication of the government’s commitment to combating these issues head-on, Blackmoore revealed that 112 individuals had already been arrested and charged, with 96 of them being male and 16 female. “We are not merely paying lip service to this problem,” he emphasized, “we are taking decisive action to bring those responsible to justice.”

Acknowledging the Prime Minister’s leading role in addressing these pressing matters, Blackmoore outlined plans to intensify the crackdown on the illicit trafficking of firearms. “We are forging strong partnerships with Customs, Police, and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to tackle the origins of these firearms and dismantle the networks that support their circulation,” he declared resolutely.

The National Security Minister’s message was crystal clear: “We are leaving no room for complacency, no space for those seeking to exploit our communities for their criminal gains. With the combined efforts of our law enforcement agencies, we will root out the illegal trade in firearms and drugs from our streets. Every measure will be taken to safeguard the security and well-being of our citizens.”

In conclusion, Minister Blackmoore’s unwavering commitment and assertive stance demonstrated the government’s determination to protect the nation from the scourge of drugs and illegal firearms. The country can rest assured that the battle against criminal elements is being fought with utmost dedication and resolve.
