Over $36.9 million worth of illegal drugs, including marijuana and cocaine, were destroyed on Thursday by the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF). This decisive action underscores the authorities’ intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and illicit drug activities across the island.
The destruction operation, held at Morne Bruce, included drugs valued at over $33 million in cocaine and $3 million in marijuana. While many of the substances were seized during the final quarter of 2024, the incineration also included drugs confiscated in earlier operations and from court cases that have since concluded.
Clinton Hilaire, head of Dominica’s Drug Squad under the Central Division Police Force, highlighted a marked increase in the volume of drugs seized during recent operations compared to previous years. He reaffirmed the CDPF’s unwavering commitment to addressing drug-related activities, emphasizing the importance of creating a safer environment for Dominica’s citizens.
The controlled incineration was carried out under the supervision of the Inspector of the Drug Department, with several key stakeholders in attendance, including the Director of the Drug Prevention Unit, the Deputy Chief of Police, senior law enforcement officers, and members of the media.
Law enforcement officials used the occasion to reiterate their zero-tolerance approach to illegal drugs, issuing a strong message to drug traffickers and urging the public to steer clear of drug-related activities. They emphasized the importance of community cooperation in reducing the impact of drug trafficking and abuse on society.
This operation represents a significant step forward in the ongoing battle against the illegal drug trade, reinforcing the police force’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s well-being and public safety.
