Microbiologist and immunologist Swinburne A.J. Augustine has addressed the misconceptions surrounding the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination. The EPA member said there are lots of misinformation making the rounds on vaccination and urged people to obtain verified health information for officials sources only.
While speaking to Loftus Durand on Civic Vibes, Dr. Augustine emphasized vaccination is important toward eliminating coronavirus in Dominica and the world. He noted that inoculation will wipe out the pandemic with time and safeguard the health of the populace against physiological damage. Apart from protecting the health of the people, the medical practitioner said widespread inoculation will restore the economy to normalcy.
Augustine emphasized that vaccines undergo series of trials with thousands of human participants before they are approved for public administration. He added that federal government agencies such as the FDA and the CDC in the United States and other similar agencies in other countries carry out numerous trials on vaccines before they are adjudged safe for human use and effective against targeted viruses.
“Before any scientific information can be published, it goes through a rigorous process,” Dr Augustine said. “Before we can even do the science, we have to use humans as subjects of those researches to prevent the things that have happened before like the syphilis study in black men. To prevent those misconducts, we have to go through a serious process both regular and legal to ensure that the result of the vaccine can cause no harms and will benefit the people for whom it is meant.”
