Inland Revenue Staff Granted $35k Bail after Charges of Forging Driver License

An Inland Revenue staff, Jed Shipley, has been granted a $35,000 one-day conditional bail after being charged with forging drivers’ licenses. The son of retired police officer Jefferson Shipley, the accused was charged with five offences bordering on forging driver’s licenses and uttering a print payment form to foreign citizens.

According to police prosecutor, Inspector Francis Laville, Shipley on May 9 forged a payment form for driver’s license to Jean Remy Duchard, a Haitian, and also uttered a print payment form to him. On September 13, he also allegedly forged a payment form for a driver’s license and uttered a print payment form to Claudenysson Morency, another Haitian.

Shipley was arraigned before Magistrate Michael Laudat of the Roseau Magistrate Court on September 26 where a five-count charge was read out to him. His lawyers, Jodie Luke and Annika Bellot, pushed for his bail – which was not opposed by Inspector Laville – and Magistrate Laudat granted a bail of $35,000 for one day with Shipley’s father serving as his guarantor.

While the case was adjourned to September 27, Duchard and Morency as well as Royson Warren, a Dominican from Pottersville, were also charged before the court and granted bail over the same offence.
