International Airport First, and Cruise Village Second – Tourism Minister Says

The Skerrit administration has confirmed that the construction of the proposed cruise village in Dominica remains a top priority. According to Tourism Minister Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite, the government will devote attention and resources to the cruise village after the ongoing international airport is completed.

Lockhart-Hypolite announced that the cruise village will be constructed in Roseau and the Woodbridge bay port in Fond Cole. She said the citing of the cruise village will boost the aesthetic appearance of the capital city and give visitors to the country a first-hand experience of progressive modernity in Dominica. The village will also offer Dominican cuisines and products to visitors so as to showcase the cultural values of the local people.

“Certainly the cruise village is on the cards for Dominica,” Lockhart-Hypolite said. “But it has been all hands on deck for the international airport as we consider that as priority number one.”

The tourism minister said the construction of the international airport and the cruise village among other developmental projects is part of the Dynamic Dominica initiative. She said the government would have gone far ahead in the projects, but the COVID-19 pandemic slowed things down for everyone.

Then she used the opportunity to implore every Dominican to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, adding that vaccination centres have been set up at the All Saints University in Roseau and other major areas to make vaccination accessible to everyone.
