International Volunteer Day 2020

Speech by Director General in observance of International Volunteer Day 2020

The Dominica Red Cross wishes to recognize its many volunteers on International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2020.

International Volunteers Day is celebrated worldwide and tells the story of what volunteers can do to save lives, protect livelihoods, and strengthen recovery from disasters and crises.

For the Dominica Red Cross Society, this is an opportunity to promote and recognize the important role of our volunteers in the promotion and strengthening of resilience, prevention, and development in our communities.

This year has been particularly challenging having to respond to the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID 19 pandemic.

The pandemic has highlighted an even greater role of our volunteers in their communities; complementing government health services and providing essential support to the vulnerable.

These volunteers face extreme risks and danger while delivering support.

The President, on behalf of the Governing Board of the Dominica Red Cross, would like to, therefore, salute all Red Cross Volunteers on International Volunteers Day for their invaluable support in making that positive change in the lives of our vulnerable through volunteerism.
