IRD Extends Filing of Personal and Corporate Income Tax to May 31
The Inland Revenue Division (IRD) has extended the filing of personal and corporate income taxes to May 31. The earlier date set was March 31, but the government saw it fit to extend the deadlines because of the prevailing coronavirus situation in Dominica.
Sylma Lloyd, acting comptroller at the IRD, urged individuals and corporate organizations to file their returns online before the stated deadline to avoid penalties. She said the IRD would be on hand to help anyone that requires any assistance with filing their taxes before the deadline, but this would be done using the agency’s online channels.
Lloyd noted that the IRD is aware that the increased use of its online channels and website is causing delays in processing, and that the authorities are doing everything in their power to make the experience as hassle-free as possible. She added that the delay is caused by thousands of people accessing the system at the same time, thereby overloading the servers. Once there is a delay, she cautioned, users are to try again until they get through.
She disclosed that the office will be open on certain days for those who are not able to make their payments online.
“The office will be opened for accommodating all cashiering services on Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th 2020, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.,” she said.
According to Lloyd, late payments attract a penalty of 10% and defaulters may be subjected to harsher penalties in given circumstances. People who have any other requests or complaints can email IRD’s comptroller on ird@dominica.gov.dm while the agency’s website for filing income taxes is www.eservices.gov.dm
