Japanese Ambassador on Behalf of SFT Donates 48 Footballs to DFA
The Japanese ambassador to Dominica, Yutaka Matsubara, has donated 48 footballs to the Dominica Football Association (DFA). Accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Japan to Dominica, Gerard Cools-Lartigue, Matsubara made the donation at the DFA office in Roseau under the auspices of the Sport for Tomorrow (SFT), an initiative of the Asian country to strenghthen sporting values across the world.
The DFA secretary general, Jarsmine Vidal-Matthews, and technical director Jerome Bardouille thanked the Japanese government for their contributions to sports development in Dominica and across the Caribbean. The DFA officials and Matsubara discussed the upcoming 2022 World Cup, Olympic competitions, and paralympic sports development among other matters of interest in the sports sector.
SFT is touted as an international contribution-through-sports initiative and managed by public and private sectors in Japan to disseminate sporting values across Asia, the Caribbean, and beyond. Donating the 48 footballs to the DFA on behalf SFT was calculated to establish SFT iniatives in Dominica through the Island’s football association. Sports enthusiasts opined that several football leagues and clubs in Dominica will benefit greatly from the Japan-Dominica sports liaison.
Top DFA officials expressed gratitude to Matsubara and the SFT for the gift and voiced hope that the initiative would promote mutual ideals between the two countries.
