Jason Grogg and Family Depart Dominica Following Gun Charge Guilty Plea
On March 6, 2024, the Dominican authorities deported United States citizen Jason Grogg and his family due to his involvement in firearm and customs violations. Last year, Grogg pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.
The arrest of Jason and Jennifer Grogg, together with their two teenage daughters, occurred on April 17, 2023, after officials found a firearm and ammunition in their 40-foot shipping container containing personal effects. After spending a week in custody, Jason admitted to owning the firearm without authorization and paid a fine of $9,250, resulting in the dismissal of charges against his wife and daughters.
Despite Jason’s claim that the search was unjustified and his intent to legally license the discovered handgun and ammunition, his initial release on a $50,000 bail by a High Court Judge did not prevent his subsequent deportation. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Sherma Dalrymple, issued a “notice of discontinuance,” effectively ending the state’s legal actions against Grogg.
Although Grogg has accused the state of employing “delaying tactics” through social media and has expressed plans to file a lawsuit, he had not taken any legal action at the time of his deportation.
