JCI Dominica 60th Anniversary 2019

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Dominica proudly celebrates its 60th Anniversary on the 12th of December, 2019. JCI Dominica is a non-profit organization of young active citizens aged 18 to 40 from all sectors of society who are engaged and committed to creating positive change in communities.

The Anniversary was launched on the 21st of September, 2019 in conjunction with its World Clean Up Day activities where members and the public conducted a beach clean-up and community upliftment project at Layou. JCI Dominica also declared the beach at Layou as a Peace Zone in line with the “Peace is Possible” campaign. These activities were held in collaboration with the Layou Improvement Committee, Community Tourism Incorporative, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, Harris Paints, Archipelago Trading and Jolly’s Pharmacy.

Several activities are planned, right up to the 12th of December, all of which are themed to celebrate the 60th Anniversary. The 23rd to 27th of September was declared as “Titiwi Week,”, a church service on the 29th of October at the Methodist Church with, tree planting scheduled for November and finally a boat cruise and in November, and finally the anniversary dinner in December, celebrating past and present JCI members. The general public will be provided with further details on each activity as they approach.

JCI Dominica has a rich history of members and is known for its many contributions to Dominica. Past members include President Emeritus Elude Williams and Alvin Knight. In the area of education, JCI Dominica implemented scholarships and adult education programs in the 1980s and most recently school-feeding, charitable donations and beautification programs.

In the area of entertainment and recreation, JCI organized the JCI Inter-Company Sports Meet, Coney-Island, and JCI Miss Teen West Indies. In the area of Health and the Environment, JCI Dominica has partnered with many NGOs and other interest groups to promote various campaigns such as the Lupus Walk, clean-up drives and school upliftment.

JCI works to improve and engage young persons locally through training and project development and implementation.
