Joseph Isaac, a former UWP candidate has crossed carpets to the DLP with a view to representing the Roseau North Constituency in the coming elections. Isaac is currently the parliamentary representative for the Roseau Central Constituency. His political ambition was launched recently and top national figures were in attendance, including Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
Isaac promised economic empowerment to the youths and all-round betterment for all if elected to win the position. He is contending against Danny Lugay of the UWP for the Roseau North Constituency seat.
While addressing the people, Isaac revealed that he grew up in Roseau North and that his people still reside in Pottersville, Goodwill, Didier, and Fond Cole among other places. “That’s where I come from. My DNA is planted in Roseau North,” he said, mentioning he spent his childhood in Gutter in the company of his father.
Having been endorsed for the parliamentary seat by the prime minister, Isaac said he is putting Dominica first in all he does and commended Skerrit for his visionary leadership in the country.
Commenting that Roseau North is an economic hub in the country, Isaac said he looks forward to the completion of the sporting fields in the constituency for the use of sportsmen and artistes. He highlighted his vision for health tourism and noted that the government is set to make healthcare cheap and affordable at the grassroot levels. And he mentioned the efforts of the Skerrit-led administration to make education free at the DSC.
According to the foremost politician, his tenure will see to the creation of relevant jobs in the agriculture, construction, retail, manufacturing and hospitality sectors. Isaac also said with the people’s support, the Roseau North Constituency will be a better place for all.
In a related development, PM Skerrit announced the return of Dr. Kenneth Darroux to contest for the Petite Savanne Constituency seat. The prime minister said the people of the region had been calling for Darroux return to politics even though the latter had earlier made it clear that he is no longer interested elective positions.
“I want to announce this evening, the return of Darroux to the fray of candidates in the upcoming general elections,” Skerrit said. “Dr. Darroux had initially expressed a desire to step away from elective politics but the call of the people has been overwhelming.”
The prime minister also said the candidacy of Gregory “The Karessah” Riviere will be launched on July 28.
