Joshua Francis Sues Police Chief and Attorney General for False Imprisonment
Attorney Joshua Francis has sued Acting Deputy Police Chief Davidson Valerie, Attorney General Levi A. Peter, and Officer Judy Ettinoff Anslem for false imprisonment. Francis is also sueing the government for breach of privacy, confidence, statutory duty, constitutional rights, and pre-trial prejudice. The attorney is demanding to be awarded $32,000 and other claims against the defendants.
Represented by Attorney Ronald Charles, Francis alleges that the government filed a lawsuit against him without any legal basis or reasonable cause. He said the government of Dominica also welcomed other persons and extraneous situations to determine the prosecution of the lawsuit against him even though they were aware of the futility of such exercise.
He averred that he was arrested, detained, and prosecuted with the sole intention of damaging his public reputation and reducing his chances at contesting or winning the parliamentary seat for the Roseau South Constituency. His $32,000 demand covers counseling and medical expenses ($2,000) and legal costs ($30,000).
Citing instances of unlawful and malicious conducts targeted at harming his family, personal, and career, the attorney also wants exemplary and aggravated damages to be awarded against the defendants.
The government has not responded to the suit yet and there has been no response to media inquiries.
